General history and facts:

”M/S Skärgården” is a passenger ship built by Marinteknik verkstads AB for Waxholms Ångfartygs AB, Stockholm. The vessel was delivered on 10th of November 1978, however, it started to serve the passengers during the next spring, on 12th of April 1979 in the Stockholm's archipelago. In 1988, three of the four engines were exchanged with Scania DSI 11. In 1996 it was realised that the ship should not achieve speeds higher that 12 knots for safety concerns. Consecutively, during next year “Skärgården” was rebuilt to address the safety requirements and the restrictions were removed. On 1st of May 2000, the management of the ship was taken by Rederi AB Wermdö. During 2001, the engines were exchanged with the current Scania DSI 12, 1,180 hp (867 kW). On 16th of April 2007 the operator changed to Skärgårdsvind AB and on 18th of August 2008 the operator changed again to Stockholms Sjötrafik AB. During 2013, Skärgården undergo a large modernisation in the interior and exterior, but also the engines were exchanged to the current MTU S60 6062, 1,600 hp (1,176 kW). During the 2010s there were several changes in the operator until 1st of October 2019, when the ship’s management was taken by Blidösundsbolaget AB, Stockholm.
