The Eurocopter EC145 (ICAO model code EC45) is a twin-engine rotorcraft, originally produced by Eurocopter Group and from 2014 marketed as Airbus Helicopters H145. The military variant is known as Eurocopter UH-72 Lakota.
The model is of a twin-engine light utility helicopter, with quad-blade main rotor and VARTOMS tail torque matching system. Originally, the configuration was powered by a pair of Turboméca Arriel 1E2 turboshaft engines and latter, in the mid 2010’s, it was fitted with Turboméca Arriel 2E engines.
The Eurocopter EC145 is based on the Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm/Kawasaki BK 117 C1 and originally was simply referred as BK 117 C2. Following the merge of Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm (Daimler-Benz) and Aérospatiale-Matra into Eurocopter in 1992, the machine was sold under the name Eurocopter EC145. After 2014, the same configuration was branded as Airbus Helicopters H145.
The Eurocopter EC145 is designed for variety of segments, from the passenger and corporate transport to the emergency medical services and search and rescue operations at high-altitude. On 25th of September 2019, an Eurocopter EC145 landed at 6,962 m on the summit of Aconcagua, to mark a world record for a highest point of landing of a twin-engined helicopter.
